Shorea
wood is a teak or mahogany-like hardwood from the family shores
laevifolia that is grown in the tropical rain
forest regions of Indonesia. It has very similar qualities
to teak. It resists rotting and is harder and heavier than
teak. Common uses of shores wood in addition to fine furniture
are boat and marine construction, bridge and oil rig construction,
and lock-gates for flood control. It is also popular as a
heavy-duty industrial flooring. It's original golden-brown
color weathers to a beautiful lighter gray. Oiling is optional.
Shorea has proven it's ability to withstand all seasons equally
as well as teak.
